is my story!
I first got the PowderPuff going back in the early 80's at Drag Day, when we were racing at OCIR. I approached Rich Kimball with the idea, and he was all for it. The first race did not have that many ladies racing, but after that it caught on really fast. After OCIR closed down, so did the PowderPUff class. Then 4 years ago, I approached Rich Kimball again (actually we are really good friends), and got the PowderPuff Class going at the Drag Days, and also at Bug-in.
We have two different Series that we run:
Series One: 2 - Drag Days & Bug-In
Series Two: 2 - Sacramento Bugoramas & the Fontana Bugorama
How I got it started back up was just word of mouth, and I sent letters to all the So Cal VW Car Clubs, and I posted it on all the forums. It spread rather quickly, and we usually have an average of 20+ ladies racing the Series One. The average for Series Two is about 8 ladies.
I also got it started in Europe at the European Bug-In with the help of my English friend. One of the ladies from Germany had brought a car for me to race, so that was a really great time to be able to race in Belgium.
I was the Series Two Champion in 2009 & 2010.
This last Drag Day on October 30th - I won the PP Class, and I cut a Perfect Light. So that was certainly a good day for me!
Mike & I are looking into maybe catching some of the races back East, so we can meet new people, and maybe even make some new friends.

I have attached 3 videos of my car. My car has done 12:86 @109mph in the 1/4 mile. I am very proud of how well my car runs (thanks to my wonderful husband Mike). I race on radial tires, and use pump gas! No to shabby for a heavy stock ghia. We plan on looking into maybe putting some cheater slicks on it for next year, and changing up some gears! ( I know an excellant Tranny Man)
